PlaceSense, the location intelligence proptech start-up, is pleased to announce the appointment of 25-year industry veteran Ronen Journo to its advisory board. Ronen will advise PlaceSense in its growth strategy as it scales its business and becomes more sophisticated.
Ronen’s appointment at PlaceSense is the latest move in a long journey of contributing to the continuous innovation of the real estate industry. Prior to WeWork, Ronen spent 20 years at Cisco where he was Managing Director, Workplace Resources, Operations EMEAR. During the last 10 years he led an organisation with 21 direct reports responsible for all aspects of corporate real estate amounting to 4m sq ft across 72 countries , focusing on global site strategy and connected workplace programs. His workplace resources team enabled the company to grow, and it became a true business partner to many of its functions as well as the core business. His team produced value from the convergence of workplace, people, technology and culture. During Ronen’s time at Cisco, he and his team were heavily involved in the Tech development of smart cities, building innovation centers to harness Cisco technology to enhance utilities, security services, and transportation. He also joined the M&A team and became the integration lead for all acquisitions in the region.
Launched in August 2018, PlaceSense gathers mobile data from mobile apps to create highly detailed insights of how people interact with the places around them (e.g. what shops or restaurants they visit, are they return customers, how did they travel there, where do they go next, what demographics do they represent?).
Based in Tel Aviv, the company prides itself on being fully GDPR-compliant and focused on data privacy. It not only anonymises all its data but uses proprietary algorithms that go far beyond the industry standard, ensuring all individual information is private.
PlaceSense focuses on the European market and is up and running in Germany where it already logs 10m devices a day each averaging more than 20 different location events . Germany is the most sensitive market to data privacy in Europe and success there means PlaceSense can succeed anywhere. UK expansion is ongoing and France, Italy and Spain are next in line.
“ During my journey, I have always been fascinated by the value we can create by better understanding the convergence between People, Culture the physical Space and Technology. Many solutions have been developed to provide insights into human behavior and its relationship to space within buildings. Understanding the ‘who?’, the ‘why?’, the ‘what?’ outside of buildings is the next frontier.”

“PlaceSense proof of concept in Germany, in one of the leading GDPR countries where privacy is really a big focus, I think it’s courageous and incredible that Dan and his team are not taking the easy path. They’re going straight to the heart of the most visible economy and saying, ‘This is where we’re going to build our business.”

Dan Gildoni, CEO and Co-Founder of PlaceSense, said: “Having someone with Ronen’s expertise and commitment to innovate in our industry join the board is a real seal of approval for PlaceSense. No one has tried tackling the location intelligence challenge the way we have, focusing both on privacy and ultra-granular detail. Ronen shares our passion for this idea and we can’t wait to continue our journey expanding across Europe with him on board.”
